About Daleside
Lindokuhle Sobekwas new book with collaborator Cyprien Clment-Delmas portrays a primarily white, working-class South African neighborhood over five years and tells a story of race, class, and healingon a personal and universal scale As a result, this is a series of images that depict a poverty-stricken area, where black and white residents have been neglected and forgotten by society. Daleside is a book filled with conversations that haven’t been had. Therefore, the images show an isolated place that is both depressed and hopeful, disturbing and amazing. Consequently, through powerful portraits, Daleside exposes the racial and class divisions that run deep in South Africa.
