About
Van der Elsken’s gritty pictures are now heralded as images of hope after World War II. Here, over 170 have been set against a black background and artfully arranged with one to four photographs a spread. Also includes a full exhibition biography, full bibliography and five essays about Van der Elsken’s life, work and times.
Paris, jazz, Amsterdam, love, and Japan in the 1950s are the outward subjects of Van der Elsken’s gritty, black-and-white photographs, considered by many to be true signs of hope after the despair engendered by the second World War. Over 170 images are featured in this handsome volume, produced by one of Spain’s premier photography publishers. Five essays, plus a full exhibition biography and bibliography are included.
