About Hereafter
Hereafter is a story told through photographs. The story of Clavarino’s grandparents called John and Mary Phillips, who lived and worked in Sudan, Libya, Oman, Cyprus and Jordan for over thirty years. During that time, the British Empire was in decline. Clavarino’s work gathers images, letters, documents and all sorts of pieces that create a chronicle of the experience of a rapid-changing social environment. This way, the artist deconstructs his family’s narrative, how it changed and evolved, dislodging from the colonial discourse.
