For Alice Bhatti, a job as Replacement Junior Nurse at the stench-ridden Sacred Heart Hospital for all ailments is a welcome respite after doing time at the Borstal Jail. A chance encounter with Teddy Butt, ex-bodybuilder and member of the nefarious Gentlemans Squad of police, ends in an unlikely romance between the two. But being a Catholic choohra in an Islamic world comes with its fair share of prejudices. Repeatedly ostracized on account of her gender and trapped by the caste system, Alice must resist stereotypes and find grace amidst increasing intolerance. Set in modern-day Karachi, Pakistan, Our Lady of Alice Bhatti is rambunctious, defiant and uncompromising. Darkly humorous and written in the authors trademark satirical style, it captures a nation in bedlam and reaffirms Hanifs reputation as one of the most distinctive voices from the Subcontinent.
