About
Here are twenty-five of Poe’s most famous short stories, illustrated by one of the masters of modern graphic art. Their titles alone are enough to fill the imagination with feelings of apprehension and dread: titles such as The Fall of the House of Usher, The Murders in the Rue Morgue and the Gold-Bug, to name but a few.
Although a tragic figure, dying at aged forty, Edgar Allan Poe never the less left behind a wealth of material unique in the annuals of literature. Nobody, before or since, has managed to emulate his genius, capable of sending shivers down the stiffest spine.
Arthur Rackham (1867-1939 is still regarded as one of our great illustrators. The attention he gave to detail is as note-worthy as is his miraculous harmony of tone and colour. He illustrated many major works including The Arthur Rackham Fairy Book and The Compleat Angler.
This present book is a reissue of the illustrated edition first published by Harrap in 1935.
